A book of 50 Photos: Book 1: The Black Forest of Germany
What is the Black forest of Germany? The Black Forest (Pronounced Schwarzwald in German) is a large forested area of Southwestern Germany. It has a very mountainous landscape. It is covered by a thick layer of pine trees. The mountains are of medium height arising generally to about 3000-4000 feet above sea level. Similar to our Appalachian Mountains in the United States. The Black Forest of Germany is bordered by France and the Rhine river to the West. Switzerland is on its Southern border. It runs up to the North of Germany as far as Karlsruhe and Pforzheim. This area of Germany is very beautiful. It is wonderful for recreation in all seasons. Many very small villages are nestled in the forest valleys. There is history everywhere in the forest and mountains. Ruins of castles, churches, monasteries, battlements, and other historical significance are readily found. There are plenty of trails and overlooks. Camping and small inns are everywhere. There are places to eat in the valleys, on the way up the mountains, and sometimes even at the very tops of the mountains themselves.
